R. Daniel Wells

August 29, 1946 — May 10, 2023

Dublin, Ohio

Robert Daniel "Dan" Wells, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at Dublin Memorial Hospital.  Dan was born in Bluffton, Indiana to Milo and Pauline Wells on August 29, 1946.

Preceded in death by his parents Milo and Pauline Wells of Angola Indiana, brother Eugene "Gene" Wells, Bluffton, sister Charlotte Rakestraw, Angola, Indiana and brother-in-law Harold "Tut" Hayden, Dublin Ohio.  Survived by sister Patricia Hayden of Dublin, Ohio and brother Richard "Dick" and Becky Wells, Angola, Indiana.  Many nieces and nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

Dan graduated from Angola High School and attended Columbus College of Art and Design and was drafted into the U.S. Army after his first year.  He served in Vietnam as a tunnel rat.  He found time in Vietnam to put his artistic talents to use when asked to paint portraits of Generals and Officers.  After serving in Vietnam, he returned to Columbus and then moved to Denver, Colorado where he owned a bar for a number of years.  While in Denver he assisted his long-time friend Carl Gimm, curator of the San Francisco Museum of Art, in restoring works of art.  When health problems started, he wanted to be closer to family and moved back to Dublin where he worked in the paint department at Lowes.

Dan lived his life entertaining family and friends.  He loved his family and his dog Jackson, and his amazing neighbors.  He loved to cook, garden, collect and tirelessly prepare for Christmas-his favorite time of year.  The song by Frank Sinatra expresses his life in full "I've a life that's full. I traveled each and every highway and much more than this.  I did it my way".

A memorial service will be held for family and friends in Angola, Indiana, with date to be determined.  Dan's love and orneriness will be missed by his family and friends.  We loved him bunches and he loved us back.

A special thanks to his caregivers at the Columbus VA Hospital for their care and friendship the past many years.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, KS 66675-8516 or on-line https://support.woundedwarriorproject.org.
