Marvin D. Edwards, age 78, of Hilliard, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home Monday, October 13, 2025, surrounded by his family who loved him, after a short battle with CHF and kidney disease. He was born on April 24, 1947 to the late Hubert and Ella (Harris) Edwards in Pittsburgh, PA. Marvin was preceded in death by his loving parents and his much-missed sister, Lynne (Edwards) Blasingham. Marvin leaves his wife of 25 years, Kathy (Upperman) Edwards, who faithfully and lovingly cared for him until his passing. Marvin leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Reneka Edwards, step-daughter Carolyn Upperman, his son Michael Larson Edwards, Michael’s wife Maria Larson Edwards, and grandson Myles Larson Edwards. Marvin also leaves numerous cousins, friends, and family.
Marvin started out as a Boy Scout and ended as an Eagle Scout. He liked being a summer camp counselor with the teenage boys. He graduated from Bartram High School, Class of 1964. He attended East Stroudsburg State on a voice scholarship. He was a veteran of the Unites States Air Force. Marvin was a DJ and his nickname was “DJFlip the Lite Chocolate Chip.” He loved spinning records at local bars, wedding receptions, and on a few cruises. Marvin also worked in the hobby industry delivering hobby materials to many stores. He loved the train models the best. We actually spent our honeymoon in a real train caboose. His last job was selling computers. He went to numerous computer demo shows. And as always, talking with every person who walked by his booth.
Marvin had many friends and family while living in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh. He would talk with them often to this day. He loved collecting baseball cards. He collected them from 1980 to the present. We started going to Sports Card shows on the weekends. He loved spending time with the other collectors, selling his duplicate cards and finding more for his sets. He was a diehard baseball card ADDICT!
Marvin loved watching war movies and war documentaries. He would tell me in detail about the planes, ships, tanks, and types of bombs used. Marvin loved to read. He kept books everywhere and he would read multiple books at a time. The books he especially liked he would give to his doctors that loved the same books.
Marvin was a member of Abundant Life NALC. He sang many solos and was the church cantor during Sunday services and holidays.
Marvin was a father to one daughter, Renekah, one step-daughter, Carolyn, one son, Michael, and one grandson, Myles. He talked about them all and told me a lot of stories of their growing up. His love for them was special.
