Mariam "Sue" Peterson

August 6, 1929 — June 14, 2026

Mariam “Sue” Peterson, age 96, passed away peacefully on June 14, 2026, surrounded by her family in Hilliard, OH. She was born on August 6, 1929, in Parma, OH. Sue was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 63 years, William Russell Peterson.

She is survived by Sandy Peterson, Lee Peterson, Jane Peterson, Dean Peterson, and Laurie Peterson Aldrich, as well as 8 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren.

Sue was extraordinarily talented and remarkably determined. Her family lovingly remembers her distinctive “pinky point,” a small but unforgettable expression of her determination and spirit. She was a master gardener, an amazing quilt maker, and a lover of all things in nature, especially birds. She will be remembered for her loving, kind, friendly, cheerful, determined, and creative spirit, as well as her remarkable ingenuity, a trait she proudly shared with her father.

Sue and Russ touched many lives throughout the years in the many places they called home. They moved a lot but lived the longest in West Liberty, Ohio, where they were deeply involved in the community. Together they shared their hospitality, amazing cooking, baking - especially her cinnamon bread that was loved by all, and entrepreneurial spirit through Liberty House Bed & Breakfast. They were particularly devoted to the West Liberty Lion's Club.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Sue’s name to the West Liberty Lion's Club, Box 686, West Liberty, Ohio 43357. In her memory, the club will plant a ginkgo tree with a marker in West Liberty’s Park next to Russ's tree.

A private family service will be held later this year where she will be buried beside Russ and their son Craig in Frankfort, Ohio.
