Kristine Jónsson

d. September 30, 2020

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, granddaughter, cousin, and friend, Kristine Elizabeth Jónsson (Kristín Elísabet Steinsdóttir). Kristine was a 16 year old resident of Hilliard, Ohio who left this world unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 30, 2020.  Born on January 17, 2004 in Columbus, Ohio, she attended Hilliard Darby High School where she was known as an accomplished artist, gifted flute player and honors student. Along with having the most brilliant smile and contagious laugh, everyone who knew Kristine described her as compassionate, creative, and caring.  She always had time to listen, was an amazing friend and cared about the world like it was part of her family.  Her kindness and warmth made people gravitate towards her and allowed her to have a profound impact in the lives of others in both small and big ways. There are no words to describe how much her family will miss her.

When Kristine showed her creativity, it often involved her love of art, Anime, Manga, dragons, and funny memes.  Her soul was full of music and she knew the lyrics to just about every song. She shared her mother's love of Broadway musicals and that love extended well past just sitting in the seats. They spent hours in the car, while Kristine was learning to drive, belting out Hamilton or Dear Evan Hansen.  Kristine was proud of her Icelandic heritage and enjoyed exploring Iceland’s natural beauty while on family trips.  Her sarcastic nature hinted to her wit while her tenderness poured out of her when she was feeling silly.  Her compassion and love of nature was evident in everything she did.  Whether a baby bird fell from its nest or an opossum mother lost her babies in our backyard, Kristine saw it as her duty to help.  She adored her cockatiel, Rainbow. She wanted him to be able to enjoy the outdoors safely, so she trained him to wear a collar and leash, and would proudly stroll around the neighborhood with her bird on her shoulder. To her brother Daniel and sister Katherine, she was simply “awesome.”  She always had time to play Minecraft with them even though the “ugh, fine!” showed that it sometimes wasn’t at the top of her list to do.  She truly enjoyed being their big sister. Kristine loved the arts and could usually be found with a pencil in her hand drawing a dragon, a bird or one of the many characters she created. She loved spending time with her Dad and they spent many hours together, biking, watching movies, and exploring Iceland. She dearly loved her cousin Becca and her friends from school.

Although our grief feels infinite and she died too soon, we take comfort in knowing that God’s love is truly infinite and we trust her now in His gentle and loving arms.

Beloved daughter, Kristine is survived by her parents, Steinn and Laura Kristin (Billmaier) Jónsson, and her devoted siblings, Daniel Thomas and Katherine Julia, and her cherished cockatiel, Rainbow.  She is also survived by her grandparents, Julie and Joseph Billmaier, and Jón Halfdanarson and Kristín Steinsdóttir, for whom she was named.  She is additionally survived by her aunts and uncles, Eirikur Jónsson, Sigriður Jónsdóttir, Joseph Billmaier, Jr. and Mark Billmaier.  Finally, she is survived by her sweet cousins, Kolfinna Rúnarsdóttir, Snæfríður, Karítas, and Jóhanna Eiriksdóttir; Emil and Jón Eiriksson; Haukur Leósson, Laufey Leósdóttir, and Rebecca and James Winkler.

Kristine’s family will receive friends from 2:00-4:00pm & 6:00-8:00p.m. on FRIDAY, OCTOBER 9, 2020 at the TIDD FUNERAL HOME, DUBLIN-PLAIN CITY CHAPEL, 9720 SR 161, Plain City, OH 43064.  The family will hold a private funeral service and Kristine will be laid to rest at Forest Grove Cemetery in Plain City, Ohio.  The family would love for friends to share a favorite memory of Kristine by bringing a note or sharing a copy of a favorite photo.  Memory cards and a memory box will be available at the funeral home.

Due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, Social Distancing will be observed and guests are required to wear a facial covering while in the Funeral Home.  We also suggest that students younger than 18 are accompanied by a caring adult.
