Joseph E. Blankenship, age 94, of Plain City, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus, Ohio. Born in Panther, WV to the late Ance and Judy Blankenship, Joe was a veteran of the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and later served during the Korean War in the United States Army. For 40 years, Joe was the owner and operator of Spring Cleaners in Downtown Columbus. After he retired from the dry-cleaning business, Joe drove the shuttle bus for Holiday Inn on the Lane. He served as a past president of the West Side Sertoma Club, was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose, Lodge #11 and was a member of Big Darby Baptist Church. Joe was preceded in death by his parents and his eight siblings. He is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Alice Blankenship, his children: Bonnie (Robert) Rokovitz, Joy (Richard) Weldon, Judy (Greg) Immel and Joseph (Julie) Blankenship, his six grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren, his sister-in-law Naoma Kreachbaum, and his many friends.
