John (Jack) Howard Metzger was called to his eternal home on July 12, 2025, in Dublin, Ohio. Born on October 28, 1948, in Lima, Ohio, he was the beloved son of the late Howard and Harriet Metzger.

Affectionately known as Jack, he was a kind, steady, and loyal presence in the lives of all who knew him—a devoted son, brother, and uncle. A man of quiet faith and strong values, Jack was the eldest of five children and a graduate of Delphos St. John’s High School. He went on to attend trade school before enlisting in the United States Air Force. During his service, Jack was stationed primarily in Thailand, where he applied his technical skills to maintaining the circuit boards of aircrafts.

After completing his military service, Jack continued this line of work as a civilian, first in Cincinnati and later in Lexington, Kentucky. It was during his time in Lexington that he became a supporter of the Kentucky Wildcats, often trading texts and playful banter with his brother and brothers-in-law during basketball season.

Jack had a natural talent for home improvement and woodworking, a true “Jack of all trades.” His abilities were widely admired throughout the family. Whether he was building, fixing, or dreaming up his next home renovation, Jack’s projects were a labor of love. He became the go-to advisor for his siblings and their children—always ready with a tool, a tip, or a helping hand. His generosity of time and knowledge was a quiet but constant gift.

Family was the heart of Jack’s life. He never missed a holiday, a gathering, or a celebration. His devotion to his loved ones was unwavering and deeply felt. Jack was consistent in sharing family updates, encouraging traditions, and making sure that even across distance, no one felt far apart. His presence was a gentle bond that held the family together.

Jack is survived by his sisters Susan Alden, Joan Albert, Beth Kaufman and his brother Edward Metzger. He was also cherished by his brothers-in-law, the late Bruce Alden, Scott Albert, Jeff Kaufman and his sister-in-law Nancy Metzger.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and connection in his many nieces and nephews: Gretchen Ross, Andrea Huffman, Jessica Billius, Abigail Andres, Matthew Albert, Allison Ingley, Chelsea Courter, Brittany Parker, Ryan Kaufman, Nathan Kaufman, Megan Randle, Kristen Weber, Kasey Metzger, Kori Metzger, and Katrina Metzger as well as their spouses. Jack was also a beloved great-uncle to many, each of whom brought him great joy.

Jack’s big heart and giving spirit will be dearly missed. His memory will continue to live on in the stories, traditions, and lives of the many people he touched.
