John Michel Hammond

John M. Hammond, 62 of Plain City reached his sunset on January 22, 2026. His sunrise was January 21, 1964 to Herman and Rose (Dulgar) Hammond.

He was a 1982 graduate of Jonathan Alder High School where he played basketball and was very active in the FFA chapter. John loved to show the family dairy cattle at the Madison County Fair and the Plain City Independent Fair. John graduated from the Reppert School of Auctioneering in Indiana. He enjoyed auctioneering and held many auctions for business purposes and to volunteer for others. John also worked at Stanley Electric in London, Ohio where he had to resign from for health reasons. Over the years he served on many local boards such as The Madison County Farm Bureau, Young Farmers, Madison County Fair Board, Miami Valley Steam Threshers, Madison County Fish and Game and volunteered for the Antique Barn at the Farm Science Review. He was a member of Big Darby Baptist Church and served the church as a deacon and a trustee.

He was preceded in death by his father Herman, his mother Rose, niece Lauren King, father in law Tom Trumbo, mother in law Sandy Trumbo, brother in law Ronald Craycraft, nephew Billy Hammond and several special friends. He is survived by his wife of 22 years Amy, their son Eli (Caroline Gutierrez). Brothers: Bill Hammond and Pete (Sandy) Hammond. Brother in laws: Roger (Amy) Smith and Chuck (Cyndi) Smith. Sister in Laws: Joanna (Randy) Baugh, Mindy Craycraft, Lynn (Rob) Fitzwater, Becky (Kurt) King, and several special nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends and family at Big Darby Baptist Church on January 28, 2026 from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm. A celebration of his life will be held on January 29, 2026 at 1:00 pm with an hour viewing before the service. His body will be laid to rest at Big Darby Cemetery (located behind Big Darby Baptist Church).

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the doctors and nurses at the OSU Ross Heart Hospital and to Dr. Laura Sorg. These individuals worked tirelessly to help John. To all our family and friends who supported us over the years and during this difficult time we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
