David Burns passed away on March 29th at Brookdale Trillium Crossing. He was born at home near Plain City, OH on December 15,1937 to the late Edgar and Florence (Wuertz) Burns. He graduated from Chuckery-Darby High School in 1955 and in 1959 he married the late Flora V. Reickers. Together, they had three children. In 1982 he married Phoebe Ann Dunham.
For many years David worked for, and later was co-owner of, Kaufman’s IGA. In 1983, he joined the team at Honda of America, retiring in 2000. He greatly enjoyed his time there. He and Phoebe traveled extensively after his retirement. They discovered the Land of Enchantment and lived in Las Cruces, New Mexico for 10 years before moving back to central Ohio.
David was predeceased by his son, Brian David Burns. He is survived by his wife, his daughters, Krista (John) Reed and Karla (Jeff) Mitchell, six grandchildren: Sarah (Brett) Kennedy, Leah (Shane) McNae, Hannah (Luke) Sabastian, Amber (Derek) Bradley, Coleman (Brittney) Mitchell and Regan Reed. He was blessed with ten great grandchildren: Olivia, Trail, Finn, Kiera, JP, Mary Kathryn, Flora, Jack, Silas and Saige. Also surviving is his sister, Janis (Marvin) Nicol and his in-laws, Barbara Burns, John (Janet) Dunham, Mary Ruth (Robert) Cilles and Jay (Lynn) Dunham along with many cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Brookdale-at-Home team and the staff at Brookdale Assisted Living. We are especially grateful for the care and support of Luminary Hospice of Columbus. Without them, his journey would have been much more difficult.
At his request, David’s body was cremated. A service will be held at Tidd Funeral Home on St. Rt. 161, Plain City. Calling hours are from 4:00 to 6:00 Friday, April 17th with the service on Saturday morning at 10:00 AM. Interment will be at a later date at the family’s convenience.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
