Donald Edwin Hayes

December 1, 1942 — June 27, 2024

A man of great faith, patriotism and compassion, Donald Edwin Hayes, passed away Thursday June 27, 2024 at his home in Winchester Kentucky. He was 81 years old. Born December 1, 1942 to Edwin and Doris Sidner-Hayes in West Jefferson, Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Rees of 30 years and his loyal, canine companions, Baxter, Patsy, and Callie. He also leaves behind his brothers Ronald and Roger, his sons, Bradley and Matthew and grandchildren Phoebe, Olivia, Ellie and Jaydon, and many other loving family members and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, and his half-brothers Rick and Garry.

In June 1961, Don became a proud member of the United States Marine Corps and was a Vietnam War veteran. Following his military service he attended The Ohio State University. He was passionate about his beloved Buckeyes and could proudly recall game statistics from years ago.

Don and Jane met in Chicago, Illinois in 1993. Together they moved to Camarillo, California in December 1994. Don was a successful businessman and in 1997 he and Jane established Conejo Flowers, a fresh flower brokerage company. They relocated to Winchester in 2006.

Throughout his entire life, one thing always remained; his love for God and firmly proclaimed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. He diligently studied the Bible and increased his knowledge over the last eight years as a member of the Bible Study Fellowship in Lexington. Don inspired others to live better lives through his wisdom, advice, and unwavering faith in God. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11 am Friday, July 12, 2024 at Scobee Funeral Home. 219 West Lexington Avenue, Winchester, Kentucky. A celebration of life will follow visitation and begin at 11 am and will be officiated by Don’s nephew, Jay Rees.

Family will receive friends from 9:30am-10:30am Saturday, July 20, 2024 at TIDD FUNERAL HOME, DUBLIN-PLAIN CITY CHAPEL, 9720 State Route 161, Plain City, OH 43064; where a memorial service will follow at 10:30am. Inurnment Forest Grove Cemetery, Plain City, OH.
